Area by Parts and Rotational Volume
Introduction
Area between two functions:
Integrate each and then subtract the areas. If it is given over a specific region use those endpoints. Otherwise you will most likely need to find the points of intersection.
For example:
1.1 Given
Find the area enclosed by the functions y1 and y2
![]()
1.2 Given
Find the area enclosed by the functions y1 and y2
![]()
1.3 Find the area enclosed by the previous functions, this time with y as a function of x.
and
![]()
Area between functions that intersect more than twice:
Integrate the functions over the domain of their first intersection and then integrate the functions over the domain of their second intersection and so forth.
For example:
1.4 Find the area enclosed by the function
![]()
